Your Footsteps

I went looking for your footsteps
Princess, mother
In the sands of yesterday--
But how would I find them?
Your fragile foot
So delicate, so kindly
Never pressed down
Upon the ground...

I searched for your monument
Among the gravestones--
But who strings praises
For an anonymous benefactor?

But somewhere
A flower blooms
Upon which once
Your smile shined;
Somewhere
Blossoms a tree
Which your eyes caressed
As you passed by;
And in many hearts gleam
Remnants of your glow
That will never be extinguished

In memory of Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson (1965), of blessed memory
